Hiking with the Babes

Nikki and I thought that the kids needed to spend some time in the wilderness, so we decided to take them all for a hike today. Even though it was eighty-five degrees at our house, it was a cool sixty with strong winds up in the mountains. We were a little chilly at the beginning.
Once we got down the hill and out of the wind, it was perfectly pleasant!
With Nikki and I each carrying a kid, that left Joli with the CamelBak. She wasn't all that thrilled with the idea, but once Markus got down I took over for her!
The kids started to warm up even more as we walked in the sunshine.
Since Joe was at home, we left Havoc and just brought Brody. He was a very happy puppy. He never went too far, only a little in front of the kids, and if they got too far, he would go up and get in front of them and then lead them back to us. Such a sweet puppy!

Markus was chilly, so it took him a little longer to decide it was warm enough to get down.
Once he did, he was happy to run and play with Brody.

We made it to the end of the trail and stopped for a snack.
Brody was very excited that it was a snack time, and could hardly sit still for take me his picture.
Once everyone had a snack, Brody laid down and let Markus sit on him to keep warm. He was okay with it for a little while, but only if Markus would let him lick his face, and especially when Markus was hugging him.
The kids finished their snack and then it was time to start our hike back.
Brody loved having Markus give him love.
Joli's hair was kind of out of control from the wind...
There were some hawks playing in the sky, and it was so fun to watch and listen to them.
 My three babies :)
Ryan had such a great time! She ran almost the entire way, laughing and chatting the whole time! She fell and scraped her knee when we were almost back, and ended up getting a ride, but overall she had a blast!
As we were leaving we noticed a fire had started, and stopped to watch the flames popping up over the hill. By the time we got home (more than a hour away), you could see a huge billow of smoke from our porch!! The fire department were already on their way when we saw it, so hopefully it won't take long for them to get it under control.
Such a lovely morning!!
