The Great Camping Excusion

Sunday night Joe and I began talking about how he wasn't really doing much at work and it would be fun to go camping towards the end of the week. It soon snowballed into a two week trip that including four nights of camping on the way to his parent's and brother's houses. So at 3:00am I woke up and loaded the car. At 4:00am I woke everyone else up and we were ready to go. Here is the back of the car.
Here is Joli's section of the car.
I started out driving while everyone else continued to sleep and not too long after we passed L.A. they all woke up and we decided to stop for breakfast. Joli was still in her jammies but we just kind of hung out and had a little break. This was our second stop where Joli, Brody and I waited in the grass while Joe got gas.
By 11:00am we were at our first campsite which was at the one lake in the middle of the desert. It was actually a very nice campground and the showers and playground were both within 100 yards of our campsite.
It was over 100 degrees when we arrived and by the time we unloaded and set up, it was time to go down to the lake. We were really excited because this was Brody's first chance to swim. He LOVED it. A true water dog!
The only problem was that Brody really wanted to be with us, so if we swam out in the water he would swim after us but then couldn't stay up while he was out there. We kind of felt like parents the first time their kid starts walking. Joe and I both stood in the water and Brody swam back and forth to us.
Here he is once he'd decided he'd had enough. He came in and laid on the towel and then didn't move until we were ready to go.
Joli and Brody were both very concerned about how far Joe was swimming.
Joli finally got the hang of swimming with a lifejacket on and she was pretty much unstoppable. She loved being far out in the water and did a great job of kicking her legs when she needed to. I guess swim lessons are starting to pay off!
Once we got back up to the campsite it was rediculously hot. Joli and I couldn't stand to put out clothes on so I stayed in my swimsuit and she just wore underwear. Here she is playing with the used batteries. She decided that if she lined them up they made a bullet train.
Towards the end of the day it was still insanely hot but we continued to drink enormous amounts of water and entertain ourselves.
Joli entertained herself by playing hide-and-seek with Joe. She didn't quite understand the concept of a shadow.
After we ate dinner we decided it was finally cool enough to let Joli play on the playground. It was still hot but we had a good time. Brody went up the steps with Joe but was not thrilled at the aspect of coming down the slide.
A quick kiss from daddy before running off to slide again.
Joli spent a good fifeteen minutes looking through the holes and then having Joe pop his hand in. It was a very good game for screaming.
We didn't actually go to sleep until after 11:00pm and even then it was too hot to even put a sheet on! We had a nice time and it was a beautiful campground but way too HOT!!!
